Vujovic: Serbia Aligning Fiscal Policy To EU Standards Expeditiously

BRUSSELS – Serbia is aligning its fiscal policy to European standards expeditiously, Serbian Finance Minister Dusan Vujovic said in Brussels during a bilateral screening of the economic and monetary policy.

“Today was an opportunity for us to demonstrate all that we have done in the domain of fiscal policy and fiscal consolidation,” the minister said after Thursday’s discussions with European Commission experts on Chapter 17 of the negotiation process.

“We meet the formalities and what remains to be done is improve that document by the end of the year, and we will adopt a new fiscal strategy as early as in May,” Vujovic said, adding that he expects Serbia’s fiscal policy to be fully in line with that of the EU by the time the country joins the Union.

Serbia has so far completed successfully the screenings for most of the 35 chapters, with all of the work expected to be finished by the end of this month.
