Siniša Mali, Minister of Finance

Siniša Mali, PhD was elected Minister of Finance of the Republic of Serbia on May 29th 2018. He was Mayor of Belgrade from the year 2014. During his term, The Mayor achieved significant investments in municipal infrastructure, has led a vast financial reconsolidation program to achieve sustainable fiscal stabilization and made Belgrade “a city filled with cranes and hardhats.”

Before becoming Mayor, Siniša Mali served as Special Advisor for economic and financial affairs to the Prime Minister of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić.

Prior to this, he was a financial advisor and consultant in private practice and at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, where he specialized in transactional work in M&A, financial advisory, financial restructuring, and in business consolidation of private and public enterprises.

In 2001, he was appointed Assistant Minister for Privatization at the Ministry of the Economy and Privatization.

Later he served as the Director of Tender Privatizations at the Privatization Agency of the Republic of Serbia.

Prior to his appointment as the Assistant Minister for Privatization, he worked for Credit Suisse First Boston in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York, NY.

Siniša Mali obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Belgrade, School of Economics, and as a Ron Brown scholar, he received an MBA, specializing in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in the US.

In 2013, he defended his PhD dissertation on the topic of “Value Creation through Restructuring and Privatization – the Experience of Serbia,” at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade.

Siniša Mali is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of: the CFA Institute, the Serbian Business Angels Network, the Fulbright Alumni Association of Serbia and British-Serbian Business Club.

He is a licensed portfolio manager at the Belgrade Stock Exchange, and has served previously as President of various boards of directors including those of Fiat Automobiles Serbia, Komercijalna Banka, Air Serbia, and as a BoD member of the Clinical Hospital Centers of Serbia.
