Norwegian Telenor officially takes over Mobi 63

Norwegian Telenor today officially took over Mobi 63, after signing a €1.513 billion contract in late July. Telenor thus acquired the Serbian telecommunication company as well as the second telecom licence for Serbia. Serbian Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic and Head of Telenor’s Central/Eastern European operations Jan Edvard Thygesen signed the sale contract.

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said after the signing ceremony that this is a strong stimulus for the development of Serbia and expressed belief that the arrival of Telenor will move other foreign investors to invest in Serbia likewise or even more. He welcomed the Norwegian company and stressed that the arrival of Telenor to Serbia proves that Serbia is stable legally, politically and economically.

Serbian President Boris Tadic said that Telenor’s arrival is impetus for the development of the Serbian economy noting that it will open new perspectives, including better living standard of Serbian citizens.

Dinkic said that out of the sum Telenor agreed to pay for Mobi 63, €1.155 billion will be streamed to the state budget.
